With its chemical ingredients and properties, Pyrex belongs to the 3.3. group of clear, solid borosilicate glass. Pyrex endures extremely high temperatures and is chemical-resistant. Its parameters are defined in the international ISO 3585 norm. Glassware crafted from Pyrex glass is smooth, crystal-clear, non porous, corrosion resistant and endures temperatures up to approximately 570°F without undergoing any sudden changes in temperature. Glass material with similar properties as Pyrex are also Simax or Duran.

Properties of Pyrex glass and its use

The use of borosilicate Pyrex glass, such as in pipes or cookware, poses no health problems to the human body, in fact, its non porous and extreme heat-resistant properties allow for it to be easily sterilzed. Pyrex glass is used to produce a wide range of technical and laboratory glassware, as well as industrial equipment and cookware, it can be found in use all over the world. Due to its properties, Pyrex is used in areas where high demands must be met in resistance to extreme heat and chemicals, neutrality against substances or compounds with which it comes into contact with; such as in chemistry, petro-chemistry, with foodstuffs, metallurgy, health-care, microbiology, pharmaceuticals, engineering and in laboratories.
