Color changing effect of silver or gold fumed glass.

Some water pipes (bongs) and some of the pipes and the bubblers are made from silver (or gold) fumed glass. Small amount of the raw metal (silver or gold) is dabbed on the glass surface. This process creates special and inimitable color changing effect - that is whit it is called CCG - color changing glass. As you can see in the pictures, the color of the glass can change according to the light conditions, e.g. against the dark background the color turns blue and against the light background the color turns yellow. Also the usage changes the colors and the general look of a pipe or a bong. The insides of the glass get dirty with usage and that creates different reflecting effects - your piece gets a beautiful unique look. Water pipes (bongs) - principle of smoking

Using a water pipe (bong) is simple. Smoker inhales with his or her mouth sealed over an opening at the top. This reduces the air pressure in the chamber of the bong above the water level in the bottom of the bong. To equalize the pressure, the atmosphere pushes air through the combustible matter releasing smoke in the bowl travelling down the stem. The smoke then bubbles through the water, into the chamber and into the users mouth and lungs. This bubbling action leads to a characteristic noise. For example, if you bubble a glass of milk with a drinking straw, by placing the straw beneath the surface of the milk and blowing, you are demonstrating the same physics, except that you are assuming the role of the atmosphere and not the bong user.

Some bongs have a carburetor or carb hole, also called a shotty (from shotgun); choke; or rush (hole). A small hole or bleed valve that the user covers with his finger when the first inhaling allows the chamber to fill up with smoke. When the user releases the carb while still inhaling, fresh air is allowed to rush in through the hole, clearing it of smoke. The fresh air herds the smoke into the users lungs more rapidly than just breathing would do. In other glass bongs, the bowl-piece is removable. This piece is then called a slide or pull, and has similar functions as carb. When the slide is removed, fresh air instead of smoke bubbles through, and acts as the cleaner of the chamber.
