Owing to the fact that no machines are used in the process of crafting fine handblown (handmade) glass pipes and water bongs, each piece assumes its own unique identity and as so, no two pieces are identical. When you look closely at all of our products, you will find that they all vary in characteristics that shape their aesthetic appeal.
The celebrated Vlachian (Valašská) School of Glass-blowing
Each of our pieces are hand-blown by one of seven of our glass-blowing artists, some of whom can trace their ancestry directly back to the well known Velička family from the Vlachian region of the Czech Republic. The first historical record of the Velička family glass-blowing tradition spans back to the Middle Ages and is now designated in the Vlachian School of Glass-blowing. From the perspective of artistry and craftsmanship, our glassware is of first class quality, with its considerable renown reaching beyond the borders of Europe. Jaromír Velička, of the famous Velička family, is the owner of ExcellentPipes.com. It all sounds a bit crazy but it is all true. After some friends from the U.S. visited the school in the late 1990s Jaromir Velička started making his first pipes.

The history of the Vlachian region and the Velička family
Situated in the present day Czech Republic, the Vlachian region is a poor, hilly region with wonderfully preserved areas of nature, where even today, it is not uncommon to see wolves and bears. Local chronicles from the second half of the 13th century make mention of the Velička family which attained permission to operate within the glass-blowing trade; registries dating back to the 15th century speak of the artistry of the local glass-blowing masters and thier frequent visits from Dutch and Italian merchants dealing in precious goods.
